Applying to West Coast College is a straightforward process designed to help you take the next step in your education and career. In order to apply to the Medical Laboratory Assistant program, follow the following application steps:

Step 1: Choose and Research Your Program

Before applying, explore our Medical Laboratory Assistant program to make sure it aligns with your career aspirations. Our program runs twice a year, with start dates in May and October. Given the competitive nature of the program, we recommend doing your research into the program, career, and course requirements.

Step 2: Review Admission Requirements 

To be eligible for admission, you must meet the following requirements:

  • Be 19 years of age prior to the start of the study period and/or graduation from grade 12 (or equivalent) and have a GED or have a mature student status. A mature student is one who has been out of high school for more than 5 years.
  • Complete a pre-admission application and interview.
  • Successfully pass an English and Math assessment.
  • Demonstrate typing proficiency of 40 WPM.
  • Provide proof of a negative TB test or chest X-ray.
  • Pass a Criminal Record Search.

Step 3: Gather Documents

Ensure you include all necessary documents in your application:

  • Copy of government-issued Identification (i.e., Passport or License)
  • High school transcript or GED certification
  • Proof of English proficiency (if applicable)
  • TB test results or chest X-ray proof
  • Criminal record check results

Step 4: Submit Your Application

Forms can be submitted via email after filling in the application by hand. Once complete, email your filled-in form to admin@westcoastcollege.com.

Step 5: Be Mindful of Deadlines

The Medical Laboratory Assistant program accepts students for the May and October intakes. Due to high demand, applications should be submitted well in advance (a minimum 1-6 months prior to the start date) to secure a spot.

Step 6: Track Your Application Status

After submitting your application, one of our Admission Advisors will carefully review your application. Our team will guide you through any next steps, including scheduling your in-person assessment.

Step 7: In-Person Assessment

During this stage, our Admission Advisors will conduct an in-person interview, as well as assess your proficiency in English, Mathematics, and Computer Skills (e.g., typing). If you are accepted into our program, you will receive an offer of admission during this in-person interview.

Step 8: Offer Acceptance

Upon receipt of an admittance offer, you’ll need to accept it to secure your place in the program. Submit your $250 registration fee, Payments include credit card, debit or e-transfer. Contact the admissions office for more details.

Step 9: Set Yourself Up for Success

Once accepted, it’s time to prepare for your studies. Purchase any necessary textbooks and personal safety gear, and familiarize yourself with the course schedule.
