What’s it like to be a Medical Laboratory Assistant in British Columbia?
The Medical Laboratory Assistant’s role is vital in a front-line Health Care Team. A Medical Laboratory Assistant’s main duties are to collect blood samples from patients; process blood samples and other biological samples for laboratory testing, perform electrocardiograms, and perform front office duties while interacting with clients/patients.
This is a 28-week Diploma Program consisting of 24 weeks of theoretical and clinical study and 4 weeks of practicum in a hospital or private laboratory arranged for you by West Coast College. Our program has two intakes per year, one in October and one in May.
With only 2 opportunities per year to join the West Coast College Medical Lab Assistant program, and limited seats, don’t wait!

Admission Requirements
- Grade 12, G.E.D., Mature Student Status
- A pre-admission application and interview
- Successful completion of an English and Math assessment.
- Proof of negative TB test or chest x-ray
- Type 40 wpm
- Satisfactory completion of a Criminal Record Search
